Major Jake Thomas is on a roll. With the help of the Artificial Life Intelligent Computing Environments, or ALICE systems, he has successfully faced off with the hostile NeHaw three times. With continued support from his inner circle of female recruits, all handpicked by the ALICEs to further their own agenda, he continues to try to help the earth return to glory.
As he works to assemble a space fleet from captured and constructed vessels to address the expanding NeHaw aggression, the terrestrial challenges at home continue to pile up. With troubles in California, Maine, and Washington State to plague Jake and his team, the threat of a two front war looms ahead.

While I still don't like the sexual relationships within the military context, I understand the requirement for them: ALICEs only recognize Jake's DNA to operate. However, and this is big, power is seductive and dangerous and those offspring may not be as honorable as Jake. Maybe We'll see how this Special Force carries the day. This sequel is worth high praise for the suspense and science. ALICE9 is scary but just may be the one which (who?) eventually carries the war to success. I would have liked a little more squad level attention but I understand the need for word limit and the requirement not to overload the story. The series shows the absolute danger of a two-front war fought with limited resources. All of this says one thing--buy and read these two novels. Get involved with a true hero. We need good people in good stories and this series so far gives us these. This one gets 6 stars to bring my last review to a 5. First dibs on the next installment!! AND THE AUTHOR READS AND RESPONDS TO THESE INPUTS! A Major Plus. Buy the books. I guarantee you'll be very satisfied.

ALICE9 eBook Charles Lamb Ted Lamb Mike Mahan Richard Glass Reviews

I love the style of writing this author developing, I have experienced it with several very good authors, Edger Rice Burroughs and Ron L. Hubbard to name a couple. This style of developing a plot on several fronts then weaving them to a great climax really takes talent. To many times they miss timing or leave you hanging. This store, as well as the first left me with my mind going in a hundred different directions as to what's coming next. Like several other reviews I think the only thing I hate is waiting for the next edition.

Foot note there needs to be a box between Good and Great I would but him at Very Good. Thanks
This is a great continuation of the series. IT hit on most of the points i was looking for in a sequel. I had some trouble with the focus of the plot for a while in the beginning, but looking back it was just well balanced writing over all. Charles Lamb didn't focus on one single world progression. He told a story with a broad scope that works well in the end... I still hoped for focus on certain things only because I get fixated.

Over all Great book. Buy it if you loved the first one. If you waited for the second one to buy the first one...you are an idiot, but buy them both now P I'm really looking forward to the third and so on....hopefully soon.
I am a retired engineer and former military so this book really speaks to me. I do not think women will much care for the multiple wife/partner relationships but I find the book a read that I can't put down. In this second book Lamb got in touch with his inner Tom Clancy and is giving quite a bit of the technical details of the various designs. I still really enjoy the book and I am now reading the 3rd and I am already depressed that there isn't a 4th but maybe one is in the works.
But Sara is pregnant already because that was in the first book!!! I hate when authors don’t bother to keep track of stuff like that. I’m also a bit pissed about Jake not doing more to delegate and remove the unneeded protocols he can remove as president...

Over all a very fast paced story, heavy on detail but that helps in some places and makes for the best points of laughter in the book. It’s well worth reading as other reviews have said.
This second book continues the first in general style and quality.

-This installment had a lot more original material/ideas
-I was surprised at how much actually took place, most authors would have dribbled this out into probably two books
-A quick-paced read that can be chewed through in a full day
-The harem aspect was dialed back a bit (for better or worse)
-The development of the ALICEs was nice to see
-Solutions were fortuitous and unbelievably fast like the previous book (double the size of your org? let's give it 15 days... I got a "hunch" we're gonna need land troops...)
-Foreign races were a bit unbelievably 2-dimensional, but we learned a fair amount on some of them
-Seeing all the different people's / races' perspectives was really nice. Gave you a 360-degree view and understanding.
-Lots of developments by the humans regarding tech and spaceships to geek out on
-The Alice/human troops' footprint and relationships continue to develop.
-Author has carved out some nice niches for the human race in this universe
-Author was great in keeping us updated with status while book was under development
-End was in a satisfying place, although the last 5% or so seemed to be rushed/compressed

Like book 1 this should definitely be read by someone looking for a "fun" story. The author has improved his skill and this sophomore effort is an incremental improvement over the first book without retreading the same story. I'm looking forward to book #3 now.
I liked this second book better than the first. The ALICEs are evolving and we find a newborn in this one! Nice surprise! Jake, our main character, continues to work hard to save everybody on the planet, and then some. There are enough battle scenes to keep the military action going, including in space. Not a big war fan myself, but I know others are. Jake is spending time with his children and grands. All his "inner circle" women are in key personnel positions and, I think that Jake would be relieved if they all but Sara would find another love interest. Nice character evolution.

I love that the author provided an index of characters and terms in the front of the book. He also gave a few pages to remind us where we are and how we got here in the story. Nice touch that more authors should follow.

Edits are still needed for grammar, punctuation, tenses, etc, but not quite as many as the first book.

I'm enjoying this story and watching the author evolve and become even better.
